{"id":5721,"date":"2022-10-14T08:37:55","date_gmt":"2022-10-14T12:37:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/docinterhar.org\/?p=5721"},"modified":"2023-11-09T15:05:34","modified_gmt":"2023-11-09T20:05:34","slug":"moving-the-landscape-to-find-groundgreg-staats-artist-talk","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/docinterhar.ca\/en\/2022\/10\/14\/moving-the-landscape-to-find-groundgreg-staats-artist-talk\/","title":{"rendered":"Moving the Landscape to Find Ground:Greg Staats Artist Talk"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Post Image is pleased to welcome Hodin\u00f6hs\u00f6:ni artist&nbsp;<strong>Greg Staats&nbsp;for an artist talk<\/strong>&nbsp;<strong>on October 18th at 6PM: in-person<\/strong>&nbsp;at Concordia University (<strong>EV 11.705,<\/strong>&nbsp;EV Building, 1515 St. Catherine W., Montreal)&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/postimage.ca\/Registration-Greg-Staats\">or online&nbsp;via Zoom<\/a><\/strong>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Moving the Landscape to Find Ground<\/em>, a cycle of artist talks and artist residencies which will take place from September 2022 until May 2023 .This series is built from a shared ambition to break open lens-based practices via the interrogation of the colonial prism through which photography exists. We are inviting conversation among all communities impacted by the colonial gaze.&nbsp;&nbsp;The speakers invited to Moving the Landscape to Find Ground will also provide&nbsp;<strong>studio visits to Concordia University graduate students<\/strong>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>If you wish to have a studio visit with one of our speakers, please sign up&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/forms\/d\/e\/1FAIpQLSc8KKEAWs64o_YuV3yh91C_BH9cmxFQU2O17BGbiYNXAfvh4w\/viewform\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">here<\/a>.<br><\/strong><br>Greg Staats is Skar\u00f9:re [Tuscarora]\/Kanien\u2019keh\u00e1:ka [Mohawk], Hodin\u00f6hs\u00f6:ni\u2019. b. 1963, Ohsweken, Six Nations of the Grand River Territory. A Toronto based artist whose Hodin\u00f6hs\u00f6:ni restorative aesthetic employs mnemonics of condolence, articulated in visual forms that hold body and place including: oral transmission, text works, embodied wampum, photographic, sculpture, installation and video. Staats&#8217; practice conceptualizes Land as monument embodied within a continuum of relational placemaking with his on-reserve lived experience, trauma, and the explorations of ceremonial orality.
