Call for Papers: Volume II Issue 2<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The American & New England Studies Graduate Students at Boston University invite you to contribute to Ampersand: An American Studies Journal<\/em>. They are\u00a0currently accepting submissions for they\u00a0Summer 2023 edition, “Colonialism’s Long Shadow”. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

How does colonialism, seemingly insidious in nature, still pervade in American culture and society?\u00a0Ampersand: An American Studies Journal\u00a0<\/em>is currently seeking contributions for our Vol 2, No 2 issue: \u201cColonialism\u2019s Long Shadow.\u201d Inspired by Edward W. Said\u2019s assertion, this issue welcomes reflections on how colonialism has been normalized, reinforced, or extended. We seek pieces that interrogate the persistence of American imperialism\u2019s various chapters, including Western expansion or the United States\u2019 turn of the century colonies in the Pacific Ocean, to name a few.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Colonial institutions and powers permeate all of American culture and society, whether in the actions of American institutions, the long history of European colonialism in the Americas, or the hegemonic practices still executed by the state against its own citizens and beyond. We seek scholarship that identifies, interrogates, or resists colonial authority, both historically and contemporarily, including in literature, history, visual and material culture, music, and media. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We believe fields are moved forward and remain relevant by the contributions of the newest scholars; for this reason, our journal centers the work of graduate students and emerging scholars. Historical period, disciplinary approach, method, and topic remain open for contribution provided the work addresses the theme of colonialism, decoloniality, and post-coloniality, broadly construed. We welcome polemic statements, theoretical interventions, creative approaches, personal and\/or photo essays, book or article reviews, methodological reflections, as well as traditional article-length texts of no more than 6500 words. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Please submit an abstract of 250-350 words and a short bio (100-150 words), along with your CV, to\u00a0https:\/\/airtable.com\/shrrFOpoNRDnLmnbX<\/strong><\/a>.\u00a0<\/strong>All abstracts are due by\u00a0May 19th, 2023<\/strong>. Selected contributors will be asked to send completed submissions by early July.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
