The Cultures – Arts – Societies Research Center undertakes to contribute financially to the realization of two postdoctoral internships, which will be supervised by one or more co-researcher members of CELAT. An amount of $25,000 will allow candidates to complete an internship of a minimum duration of six months, during the 2023-2024 academic year, in a university other than the one where the doctorate was obtained. The selection committee will prioritize the application files in which a financial package has been found so that the duration of the internship is extended.
Salary support received by the candidate:
According to the collective agreements in force, the candidate would receive a salary of $25,000, which corresponds to 910 hours of internship (equivalent to six months full-time). As with any employment contract, CELAT will add the amount necessary to cover social benefits and vacation (70 hours of vacation are included in the 910 hours paid and must be taken during the internship period). Depending on the home university, the internship can be carried out full-time (compulsory at Laval University, for example, to have the status of postdoctoral intern) or part-time.
The financial support granted by CELAT can be matched with support from one or more member(s) supporting the candidate, thus making it possible to extend the internship over a longer period.
The amount received by the candidate is taxable. However, a foreign intern can, under certain conditions, request a tax exemption (consult the Quebec government website for more information).
Admissibility :
– Have held a doctorate for less than five years.
o A maximum extension of two years may be granted by the host university for reasons of parental or medical leave, constraints specific to the research project, or to meet the conditions for obtaining or maintaining a major scholarship.
o If the thesis defense is imminent, it is possible to apply by providing confirmation from the university establishment that the thesis has been accepted for defense and the date of defense.
– Have obtained from a professor, member of CELAT, the commitment to supervise the internship.
– Have Canadian citizenship, permanent residence or hold a valid work permit for the internship period, or plan to obtain it in time for the targeted period.
– Not benefit from a postdoctoral research grant from a recognized Quebec or Canadian granting organization (e.g.: CRSH, FRQSC) or an international equivalent during the internship period planned within CELAT.
Creation of the file:
1. letter from the candidate explaining why he/she wants to do his/her internship at CELAT and the choice of his/her internship director(s);
2. project description (approximately three pages, single spaced);
3. integration of this project into one of CELAT’s three research axes and into the general theme of the Center;
4. list of activities proposed by the intern within CELAT during their internship;
5. certificate of thesis defense;
6. CV and copy of 2nd and 3rd cycle transcripts;
7. letter of support from the internship director(s) indicating the integration of this project into a CELAT research axis;
8. letter of financial commitment from one or more member(s) of the Center or any other person providing additional salary support, if applicable.
Criteria: Excellence of the file, quality of the internship project, integration of the project into the themes of the Center’s programming and activities proposed within CELAT during the duration of the internship.
Deadline for submitting the file: Friday June 30, 2023, before 5 p.m.
The results will be communicated by mid-July at the latest.
