We are pleased to invite the university community to the 6th Journée interdisciplinaire des membres étudiant·e·s (JIME) of the Groupe de recherche en histoire des sociabilités (GRHS). The event will take place on Friday, October 4 at the Université du Québec à Montréal (Bibliothèque des arts, Room A-1280; metro level entrance). This workshop – the program of which you will find attached –, promises to be interactive and rich in discussion. Also programmed is a guided tour of the Centre des livres rares et collection spéciales, by Hugues Ouellet, librarian.
Please note that the event will be held in French.
Looking forward to seeing you there,
—

About the JIME
Created in 2018, JIME is organized annually in the fall term, between the end of September and the beginning of October. Without a prescriptive theme, the workshop is open to all ongoing research projects devoted to the modern period, from the Renaissance to the age of revolutions (1850), regardless of the geographical area concerned. Four objectives underlie this event:
- Foster cohesion between students within the GRHS;
- Break down the barriers between the different disciplines and university institutions that make up the research group (history, literature, art history, philosophy);
- Allow new members to make initial contact with the research center, its workspaces, and its equipment;
- Discuss the state of current research to collectively respond to the problems raised.
About the GRHS
The Groupe de recherche en histoire des sociabilités studies the evolution of the forms and practices of sociability from the social, religious, and political crises of the second half of the 15th century to the “era of revolutions” that ended with the Spring of Nations. The forms of sociability, which involve the social bond between individuals and communities to build, perpetuate or break it, are historically defined: they are rooted in specific places and times, give rise to practices carried out by actors, obey standards, prepare, adapt, or invent the shifts of our modernity. It is to these different mechanics of “living together” that GRHS researchers devote their work. Recognized in June 2019 as an “institutional center” by the Université du Québec à Montréal, the GRHS obtained the renewal of its status for 2022-2025. Continuing its development through a disciplinary, spatial, and chronological expansion of its activities, the GRHS maintains collaborations with its partners and develops its work in synergy with other research groups.
