Overview

The Doc Inter is funding a writing and networking residency for 15 PhD students in art history. Three days in nature, housing and food included, to make progress on your thesis while building your interuniversity network. This first edition is intended to become a recurring annual event, designed to evolve based on participant feedback.

Objectives

  • Create an interuniversity community among the PhD students of the three doc inter universities.
  • Stimulate creativity and ease productivity pressure through a setting conducive to writing, in nature and with full board.
  • Develop a useful professional and academic network for the doctoral journey and beyond.
  • Combat isolation by offering a collaborative and supportive space, essential for breaking the solitude of research work.

Practical Information

The residency alternates between individual writing time and collective activities. Each student remains free to organize their schedule according to their needs.

Wednesday 23 → Friday 25 September 2026 (arrival Wednesday at noon at the earliest, departure Friday evening at the latest)

Location

Station de biologie des Laurentides (managed by UdeM)

Accommodation

Full board (all meals included), double rooms (2 student by room)

Eligibility

PhD students who are members of doc inter

Available Places

12 participant places + 3 places reserved for student organizers

Cost for Participants

Approximately $30 are budgeted if cars are full (round-trip carpool contribution). Accommodation and meals are covered by doc inter.

Selection Criteria

The 12 places are awarded according to the following principles by the CEDISC committee:

  • Priority to students in an active writing phase.
  • “First come, first served” principle.
  • Balance among participants from the different programs (UdeM, Concordia, UQAM).

How to Apply

Fill out the application form. 

Application deadline: September 6, 2026.

Results will be communicated no later than September 9, 2026. Following confirmation, organizers will proceed with reservation and invoicing (starting September 10, 2026).

Carpooling will be coordinated among participants (≈ 78 km, approximately 4 people per car).
