The Interuniversity PhD Program in Art History is pleased to announce a competition for grants from its annual funding allocation, with awards of up to $500 each. Two competitions will be held during the 2026–2027 academic year: the first in Fall 2026, and the second in Winter 2027. The competition is open exclusively to students enrolled in the Interuniversity PhD Program in Art History (UQAM, Concordia, UdeM).

The amount of each grant will be determined based on the number of applications received, the specific needs outlined in each application, and the funds available.

Two types of grants are available. Students may apply for only one of the following categories:

1. Mobility grant (field research, summer school, etc.);

2. Dissemination grant (summer school involving a public presentation, conference participation, publication, etc.).

Eligible activities are those taking place between May 1 and October 31, 2026, including expenses already incurred for these activities. Priority will be given to students who do not receive funding from major government granting agencies (SSHRC, FRQSC).

Applicants must have maintained a cumulative GPA of at least 3.8/4.3. Applications must include:

– An unofficial transcript;

– A letter explaining the reasons for and context of the application and specifying the type of grant requested. The letter must also indicate whether the applicant receives funding from SSHRC or FRQSC;

– A brief budget for the activity, indicating in particular any expenses that have already been or will be covered by other sources of funding;

– Proof of acceptance, registration, or participation in the activity for which funding is requested (e.g., letter or email of acceptance, registration confirmation, event program, or certificate of participation).

Send applications to analays.alvarez@umontreal.ca, attention: Doc-Inter Committee, no later than September 25, 2026. We will contact only successful applicants in early October.*

* Applicants must be enrolled in the semester in which the grant is awarded, namely Fall 2026.
